I tend to sweat a bit, so I just wrap my hands around the corks of  
the mute prior to insertion.  The dampness takes care of any problems  
and also ensures a firmer grip than dry corks.

No squeaky here.

P.s.  another alternative is a light spray from your water bottle.   
Same effect.
