[Trombone-l] Advice onMinidiskRecorders

One other consideration in using a MD to record lessons or even a recital is
how to get the music file to another medium for later listening by others.
I've recored my wife's flute choir concerts for archiving and the only way
to get the music out of the MD player and onto a CD - or into the computer
as a sound file - is to play it back through the headphone jack of the MD
into the line-in port in the computer and into sound recorder software (I
use Nero).

Due to copyright restrictions designed into the MD device, you cannot
directly upload the MD sound file into a computer through a USB port, etc.
The USB connection is only for downloading music to the MD. This means you
have to start the playback and then return to the computer when it's done
playing back (a few minutes or over an hour for a concert). I think that
also affects the quality of the recording, since it is being converted to
analog for playback.

Bill,

I pondered this thought also when I was shopping for my minidisc several
years ago. The best conclusion I could come up with was that the thing is
mostly used for music, so they didn't feel the need to include music on the
list of features. A suggestion of the marketing department, no doubt.

I have another question. Do minidiscs offer CD quality recording?
Sometimes when I record with mine it sounds GREAT and other times not so
great. Of course, that is all with the same mic. I have done well when I
sent in minidisc recordings (burned to CD) for competitions, auditions, etc.

and they say the recording quality is a big factor.
