[Trombone-l] Advice on Minidisk Recorders

Yes, the big drawback with minidisc is the robust copy protection -
even for live self-produced recordings, there are several hassles
involved in transferring to CD or uploadable files. And the ATRAC
format used on minidiscs is not lossless, if you're copying from CD or
other 44.1K sources.

But the minidisc format is simple to operate, robust for portable
uses, and way cheaper than the newer chip or HD recorders. You can
buy portable minidisc recorders on eBay for $65 or sometimes less. So
the format isn't getting any more popular, but it's pretty robust
within its design limitations.
