Greetings fellow trombonists,
I'm not a new trombonist, just new to the list. I have a degree in
performance from Ithaca College, having graduated in '85. Did 2 years
grad work at The University of North Texas from '87 - '89. I am an
instrument repair tech in Rochester, NY. I began learning repair at
Allied Music in the summer of '85. I worked at United Musical
Instruments (now C.G Conn Selmer) from '89 to '91 as a technical
assistant in quality control and engineering. I then worked as a repair
tech at Biviano Music in Niles Ohio, then for 7 years as a tech at
Volkwein's Music in Latrobe, Pa. I returned to Rochester in '99 to work
for Central Music Supply. I witnessed the transition From Central Music
to American Music and now Music and Arts Center. Since '01, I have been
self employed in my own repair business, Brass and woodwind Shop. I
service 6 school districts in Monroe County, and do much of the repair
work for Eastman students and area professional players. I have been
active as a freelance bass trombonist in all the places I've lived and
continue to gig as much as is possible here in Rochester and upstate NY.
I'm looking forward to getting "caught up" with what's going on in the
trombone world. I'm also looking forward to hopefully hearing from some
old trombonist friends and technician friends. I'm also more than happy
to answer any technical questions, as I believe my background could be
helpful to my fellow trombonists, having worked "on the inside" of a
horn factory.
Best to all,
Paul Abel
