Most of the problems I've seen, both pre and post 9/11 are because the
guard is a power hungry jerk. Flying back from London last July 3 I saw
one of our other tuba players going through the full body wanding etc. Why
was SHE picked, because they got to look over a pretty girl.
I have seen the glee in guards eyes when a belt buckle or pair of glasses
sets of the alarm, we get to show our power. I have also been treated with
great respect, just depends on who is doing the search. We are safer
because of these rules, but it only takes one idiot guard to spoil it.
I too had a guard approach me after I took a picture of my wife just after
we got our luggage stowed on the cart at SFO on our return, In the
background I had the security desk. The guards made me erase the picture
in their presence. I did, but wondered what secret I photoed? I was able
to take the same shot 5 feet away in front of the SFO sign from a different
angle. I am just glad it was a digital and not film camera.
These things have happened since we stared to go through security. It will
not get better unfortunately.
Don't get me stated about the commie goons who really hassled us in
Shanghai. Just really thugs, Saw the same in Tin amen Square.
