Many thanks for the generous advice on my recalcitrant 78H -- I'll measure 
the tubes this evening.  I actually think the main problem is that .525 
inners were installed by mistake when I sent it out to be repaired, and 
there isn't sufficient clearance now.  If one holds the slide in a vertical 
position with no lube save water on it, it glides beautifully.  However, 
install it on the bell & apply a tiny amount of lube, and it binds.  I'll 
see what my calipers read ...
