[Trombone-l] good but no jazz

Don't you think that this way of expressing yourself is a kind of a slam on
"classical" players? I know several who, with or without great enthusiasm,
will play jazz of acceptable, good or GREAT quality. I play a fair amount of
jazz, but don't do as much as I like due to choice [classical player] and
circumstance [left the only "jazz" band I was working due to too many
"classical" calls].

I think that every player who has worked to a level to be considered
professional has learned how to improvise to SOME degree... correct my
impression if I am wrong.

It's the nature of the business we are in that we have to be ready to do
WHATEVER is asked of us to stay functional in today's professional musical
environment.
