[Trombone-l] airy sound

Hmmmm. Well, don't be depressed, because we ALL go through little
problems with our playing from time to time. We just work through it.

Can you describe your warmup for me? Is it "Remington" based? Long
tones, lip slurs, flexibilities, tonguing? What kind of work are you
doing 4 to 5 hours a day? Every day involves a good 20 to 30 minute
long warm-up, right?

What other kind of playing are you doing?

You say your sounds is too dark? I never heard of such a thing.
Really. Most people want their sound as dark as they can get it and
generally we all play too bright. Maybe that's just me and our
situation here.

You mentioned your mouthpiece setup, but not your "axe". What
instrument do you play? My sound is brighter than I like. I tend to
think it has more to do with my 88H-SGX than anything else. The
sterling silver yields a great response, but the cost is a brightness
that I don't like. The 24k gold inside the bell offsets that
somewhat, but not enough. I, too, am considering a change -- as soon
as I can afford it.

(shhh) Don't tell anyone, OK?

You'll be OK. Just continue to work through it. Can you record
yourself to see if you REALLY are sounding as dark on the front side
of the bell as you think you do behind the bell?

Dunno. Can't be as bad as you make out if you are spending that much
face time every day and doing the right kinds of fundamentals.
