Beta blockers can work and do work and have been prescribed to reduce the
"feeling" of anxiety. Beta blockers block the body's adrenalin response. The
heart rate slows and the heart pounding anxiety and fright "feeling" is
reduced.
Beta blocker also lower blood pressure and cardiac output. They can
exacerbate asthma, cause mental depression and drowsiness and lower libido.
Everybody seems to be looking for the magic pill or easy fix to cure our
many ills.
How many musicians drink alcohol on gigs? Why? To chill themselves out.
All other treatments should be explored before going into pharmaceuticals.
Why? The adverse effects of course.
Everbody has had or has some degree of performance anxiety or fear. It's
natural, it's normal.
Excessive anxiety can impede performance. Controlled anxiety can enhance
performance. It can be a powerful motivator.
No normal healthy young person should be on beta blocker.
