[Trombone-l] Wrist and arm aches...solutions?

Most of the trombones I’ve played are balanced miserably.  It would be 
interesting if you found out if your shoulder problems were from balancing 
the trombone or lifting it.  You could do that by adding weight to the 
tuning slide area, until the trombone was really balanced on your left hand 
(like you can let go and it remains balanced).

At that point it’s going to weigh more, but will be easier to hold.  On the 
other hand, if the shoulder pain remains, then the problem might be from 
carrying the weight of the trombone.  Again, you could try an experiment, 
like a bungee cord and a screw eye in the ceiling, to see if you can play 
without pain.

And if either of those work, you might try using them for a while, just to 
give your shoulder a rest.  Since the problem just started, it also might 
also go away, in time.
