On Sunday, November 19th, 2006, the Online Trombone Journal Forum will cease
operations as part of the Online Trombone Journal. On that date, the Forum
will officially become The Trombone Forum, with totally new software which
will give our members the chance to extensively customize the look of the
Forum and how they interact with the Forum. In the meantime, all of the old
content will be moving, so all will not be unfamiliar! (Sorry, personal
albums won't be making the move, as there is currently no provision on the
new software for them. We hope to be able to start up new albums, but in the
meantime, save all the pictures that you want to keep!)
To facilitate the move of all the old threads, the OTJF will need to be shut
down for approximately two days: The Forum will go offline at approximately
7pm CST on Friday, November 17th, and be back online no later than 6pm CST
on Sunday, November 19th.
Don't panic, and try to deal with withdrawal symptoms as best as you can.
We'd suggest practicing, getting out in nature, call up your old trombone
teachers to see how they're doing. etc. Then, stop by and visit The Trombone
Forum on Sunday, November 19th, have a cup of coffee, a beer, whatever, and
take a tour.
Thanks to Dr. Richard Human for getting us started and supporting the forum
since 2000. Be sure to keep visiting the OTJ <http://trombone.org>
<http://trombone.org> for all the great articles, classifieds, reviews, and
literature.
The changeover to the new forum site, domain, and software has been planned
to create as little disturbance as possible. However, there are a few things
as a user that you can do to lessen any possible problems. Here are a few.
* MAKE SURE YOUR PROFILE EMAIL ADDRESS IS CORRECT. Users who seem to
have invalid email addresses will be deleted during the changeover.
Obviously, if you've received this, your email is working! (a duplicate of
this email has been posted on the Forum for those who have non-working email
addresses; if you know a user of the forum whose email has changed, do them
a favor and forward this email along to them)
* Save your avatar picture if you have a custom avatar! Right-click on
the image, scroll down to "Save image as..." in the popup menu, and save the
image somewhere on your local hard drive. You can import it to the new Forum
software after the change.
* Ditto your profile picture and any images from your Forum gallery.
(Note: be sure to save the *large* size image from the gallery, not the
thumbnail)
These are the initial tasks you can complete to ensure a smooth transition
for your account.
The Forum staff have been working nonstop for the last three weeks to ensure
a smooth transition; a topic has been started
<http://forum.trombone.org/viewtopic.php?p=399738#399738> here to provide
information to our users about the move. Check it frequently!
Kindest regards,
The Trombone Forum staff
