Thanks for posting that, Steve.  I suspect the same is true for jazz:
even though some of the bigger labels have slackened their interest in
the music (esp. because it's much harder and more expensive to market
than pop music), there are more musicians working today, in more
genres and sub-genres of jazz, than ever before.
