Here's my $.02:

Shires #2     brass on my 0.508" NLW small bore, 7.5" S1 yellow bell;
Shires #2.5   brass on my 4762 TDB std wgt, 8.5" 1YA2 bell, single Thayer; and
Shires #B2.5L brass on my 6278 BDB std wgt nickel, B1Y10A2 double in line 
Thayers

Also have a Shires 3GL (gold brass, long) for 547 bore, Shires B3L (long) and a 
Brasslab T-90-1 Hwt, all of which are used but less frequently.
