[Trombone-l] Leadpipes (WAS choices)

Your horns do come with leadpipes; it's just that they are soldered
in place and not readily apparent. If you take the outer slide off,
when looking down the slide from the mpce. end, you may be able to
see the other end of the leadpipe, about 10-14 inches down the inner
slide.
Some bass trombonists don't use a leadpipe, in pursuit of a bigger,
darker tone. Some companies offer a mpce. receiver (basically a sawn-
off leadpipe, only 2-3 inches long) which keeps the mpce. from going
in too far when playing sans leadpipe. Tenor trombones don't seem to
work well w/o leadpipes, but sacbuts generally didn't have them. (At
least that's my understanding of how sacbuts were made.)
