[Trombone-l] Church Music for Trbn Quartet

Ray,

I can feel your pain, as well as that of your publisher. It's hard to get dealers to invest in new publications by small publishers. I know, I'm a small publisher and co-own a dealer. There's so much stuff being released by the big houses that's there's not much room in the budget for all the interesting "indy" stuff as well. With that in mind, you might try shopping your collection out to Southern Music (San Antonio), Curnow Music (Wilmore, KY), DeHaske (Belgium) or Musicians Publications (New York). All have a track record of selling church related instrumental publications to a larger dealer base. You might also try Alfred (Van Nuys, CA). They recently acquired the Belwin/Warner Brothers catalog. Don't bother with Hal Leonard, I understand they no longer accept unsolicited works as they do all their with their work with in-house arrangers. The same might be true of Alfred, but I don't have that on good authority.

One other thing to consider - many of these places might feel better about the collection if it were available (or at least potentially available) for the other four "big five " instruments as well-flute, clarinet, alto sax & trumpet. And, if the keys were set accordingly, the books could use a single piano book, rather than needing to engrave a separate piano book in different keys for each instrument. Just a thought. Good Luck!

Along this line, I have almost completed a set of sacred solo
arrangements for trombone and piano. My publisher for trombone
ensembles, Cimarron Music, wants to publish it but I am unhappy with
sales there. What publishers would you expect to see such a collection
  published by?
