I have a recording of Strayhorn singing and playing Lush Life.  I'll dig it 
out and check.

But what comes to mind is that he played Lush Life like someone drunkenly 
wailing it in some alley.  Most of the time I heat it performed, it's all 
sanitized, complete with great intonation.

My point is that Strayhorn liked Lush Life.  How he played it one time might 
have little to do with the way he played it the next.
