World Premiere for Percussion and Brass Quintet
Cookeville, TN
The Brass Arts Quintet at TTU will present a free concert at 7:30 PM on
Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in TennesseeTech University¹s Wattenbarger
Auditorium. The highlight of the evening¹s program will be a new work for
Brass Quintet and Percussion by TTU composer in residence Greg Danner
featuring TTU¹s visiting professor of percussion, Eric Willie.
The evening¹s concert will also include a suite of renaissance dances by
Anthony Holborne, Johann Sebastian Bach¹s well known Contrapunctus I from
The Art of Fugue, Bouncin¹ Brass by Chris McCormick, Road Rage by Joshua
Hauser, and Donnaleeana, a combination of Charlie Parker¹s Donna Lee and the
old standard Back Home Again in Indiana, arranged by McCormick especially
for the quintet.
Hornist and composer Greg Danner says of his composition, ³Serengeti, named
for the region in east central Africa, is inspired by photographs of the
landscape and the wildlife of the region and includes examples of
traditional West African instruments and rhythms. The composition is
dedicated to the memory of our colleague Joseph Rasmussen, Tennessee Tech
percussion instructor, who died this past August.²
³I am really excited about this program,² says Trumpeter McCormick. ³We
have prepared a fun and varied performance that everyone will enjoy and look
forward to seeing you here.²
Members of the quintet are: Charles Decker and Chris McCormick, trumpets;
Greg Danner, horn; Joshua Hauser, trombone; and Winston Morris, tuba.
