Yes, there is. It was recorded with the Kenton band
*at least* once, on a live (LP) recording of a concert done in
London, about '55 or '56, I think. I have it -- somewhere. Will
have to dig it out to come up with the exact title.
He also recorded a shortened version of it on a 1961 album
done by the Jimmy Cook band out of Las Vegas, title of
the album being "Jimmy Cook: The Best New Band of
the Year." Magnificent playing on that version, with a
remarkably different approach than on the earlier recording.
Now this Holman treatment is a different animal, altogether,
from PD&MB on the "Great Fontana" recording mentioned by
Fred (wonderful! actually maybe my favorite of all Carl's playing),
but in the GF rendition, you can hear hints of the earlier recordings,
especially as done with Jimmy Cook.
I have a pretty poor mp3 of the JC version, taken from my very
well-worn and scratchy vinyl, which I'll send you if you like.
...and if anyone has a better copy of it...or a CD, or the original
LP, I would pay rather handsomely for it.. (;^>)
well... reasonably handsomely, anyway....
