[Trombone-l] WARM-UP WITH MUTE?

Dear All,
At the last ITF my buddy Billy Robinson came upon the "Best Brass"
mute for tenor and bass bones sold at slidebone.com. I bought one on
his recommendation and use it often. It's pricey but has several big
advantages:
1. It's light
2. It's got good frequency response from pedal tones through double F.
3. It's a tiny bit (a few dB) louder than the SIlent Brass, and a
LOT less bulky.
4. It protrudes from your bell about a half-inch, thus providing
possible travel protection similar to the styrofoam cone suggested by
Doug Yeo. You can practice in a hotel room with it without
disturbing the neighbors.
5. It allows you to warm up in a room with other members of your
group without drowning out the conversation of the others. For an
amateur player like me, who plays a lot of brass chamber music, this
is a very nice benefit. It lets warmup and socializing go on
simultaneously!
You can check it out and buy it at << http://www.slidebone.com/
