Hi Everyone -

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I thought the list would be
 interested in hearing about Alain Trudel's health.

We should all think some good thoughts for him at this time. In case you
 didn't know, he has taken up conducting of late, and has been getting good
 reviews. We were supposed to have him here next week.

Marsha Moffitt, chair of the HPO  Players' Committee, has sent this
 update on Alain's health.

Dear Colleagues,

I have some further information about Alain's health situation.
Several weeks ago it was discovered that the cancer was more
widespread
than first diagnosed.  Alain underwent twelve hours of  surgery
yesterday to remove as much as possible from several affected
organs.
The cancer has been re-diagnosed as stage four.

Alain's surgery went as expected, and he will be in hospital for at
 least three weeks.  An assessment of the success of the surgery
will  be
made during that time.  His recovery from such an extensive
procedure
will take time.  I understand he has much needed support  from
people
near him.

I was moved by Alain's energy, talent and warm personality when he
 conducted us this past fall and I find it hard to fathom such a
difficult journey ahead for him .  I know many people's thoughts
 are
with him.

I will pass on any more information as I hear it.
