Travel expenses to a primary place of work are not deductible. If you are a
freelance trombonist, your home where you keep your records, do your
business, and practice would be your primary place of work, so travel to the
gigs is deductible. If you are on a steady show that meets 8 times a week
in the same place for months at a time, then it probably isn't deductible.
WARNING: I am a trombone player, not a real tax advisor.
