I've been a member of this list for a few weeks now, and I've really enjoyed
the technical discussions so far, although, frankly, they have for the most
part been way too deep for me.

I'm a musician, but not a trombone player, although it is my favorite
instrument to hear played, primarily in the jazz medium.

Hopefully you won't mind a non-technical question... what are some good
trombone group recordings that you recommend?

Here are some that I have and enjoy:

   1. The National Slide Quartet - Trombania
   2. Slide Hampton and the World of Trombones - Spirit of the Horn
   3. Bobby Knight's Great American Trombone Company
   4. J. J. Johnson - Brass Orchestra
   5. *High Brass* - 'Time for a Change' <http://www.highbrass.org.uk/> (brass,
   no trombones)

I also have a couple of Joseph Alessi CDs, plus, for diverse contrast,
Bonerama's first CD.

My dad, Ronald Irwin, played woodwinds in jazz bands around the Portsmouth,
Ohio/Ashland, Ky. area for the McCoy Brothers Orchestra, back in the 60s and
70s, so if you have any knowledge of that area or group, I'd appreciate
hearing from you as well.

... back to lurking ...

Thanks very much,

Mike Irwin
