I get it. . .I wouldn't be able to listen to him (and I even have one
recording which is in beautiful stereo), except for electronics.
You know the execs at the record companies asked some engineers: "Why would
you want two speakers?. . .It's just like your shower. You wouldn't have
two shower heads, would you?"
Dumb=record exec | Really dumb=RIAA
I'd like to note that this thread is entitled" Acoustics of brass
instruments". Intrinsically, this is a science subject. Physicists don't
research acoustics ONLY to help do some practical sound-oriented thing.
This is like any science. The interest is in advancing understanding.
I think the problem here is that some don't appreciate that you can be
interested in science without having to have a "practical reason". I
wouldn't suggest for a minute that studying trombone acoustics will make
anybody a better trombone player. NOT THE POINT. Understanding how a
brass instrument works makes me feel good. I enjoy understanding things.
It is just like hearing good music. It makes you feel good.
I was pretty thrilled to find the Australian University site which had ample
material about various wind instuments including flute, clarinet, trumpet
and trombone and digeridoo acoustics.
I don't think it is mandatory to stick to PERFORMING theory regarding
trombone. I would tend to think any fully trombone-oriented subject ought
to be good enough.
