I remember that we had a thread going for a while about the use of the
Theremin in various motion pictures and recordings. I just got through
watching a really excellent DVD titled "Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey".
The DVD was originally produced in 1993. I would like to recommend this
program to everyone who has an interest in this fascinating instrument and
the man who created it. Also featured, is some excellent playing by Theremin
virtuoso Clara Rockmore, and interviews with Robert Moog, Brian Wilson, Todd
Rundgren, and Mr. Theremin (Termen in Russian) who passed away in 1992 at
the grand old age of 97 after many extraordinary experiences, including
being kidnapped by the KGB and spirited off the Soviet Union, where he spent
7 years in prison, before being allowed to work for Soviet intelligence. I
rented this DVD from Blockbuster Online. I don't know if it is available for
purchase or rental anywhere else. It was directed by Steven M. Martin and
released in 1993 by MGM Home Entertainment Inc. I kept waiting for some
mention of Paul Tanner in the movie, but it never appeared. Other than that
it, was very complete and extremely interesting.
