I have a King/UMI 'Repair Parts Catalog' in my hands. On the inside of the
first sheet, there is a 'guide for determining the approximate age of King
or Cleveland instruments'.
Serial numbers 511751 through 850975 were made between 1975 and 1980. So,
1977 or 1978 is pretty accurate.

Thanks for the information. Looking at the rate of increase in the serial
numbers in previous years e.g. around 25,000 -45,000 over each five year
period, it would appear that the leap from 511751 in 1975 to my 726485 must
have taken a lot more than five years and dates my 4b much later, or is
there something I have missed. Assuming the rates of increase to be
approximately 25,000 to 45,000 over a five year period my horn would be
dated much later and into the 1990s. Does that sound right do you think?
Regards
Richard

Richard,
I agree with previous post. The 6-digit number is your serial number.
