Thank you so much for passing this sad news along Derrick. Don truly was an
original gentleman in all respects. Despite his great skill he was humble
and friendly to all. You may remember his story at Nashville of taking
refesher lessons from Denis Wick annually. How many top trombone players of
any age do anything similar?

I first met Don in the spring of 1980 when he was the guest of the Hamilton
Temple Salvation Army Band at our annual festival in Hamilton Place. We
accompanied him in the Gordon Langford and in Erik Leidzen's Concertina, a
solo which I premiered in canada in 1955. What a thrill! He also graciously
agreed to play a Bruce Broughton quartette with Bob Merritt, Doug Burden and
myself and much to my discomfort, deferred to me on how it should be played.

It was heart warming to see his obvious joy in finding Diana after the
tragic loss of his first wife.

Please pass along my condolences to Diana.

Don will be greatly missed and we are all saddened today.

Dave Buckley.
