I play in an amateur corporate orchestra in St. Paul,
MN and two of the pieces we're doing in a couple of
months are the Beethoven's "Koncert fur Violine", Op.
61 and also the Breitkopf & Hartels version of the
"Funfte Symphonie", Op. 67. The Koncert is written
for Trombones in D and in treble clef. I've
transposed it to C and bass clef, but first runs up to
a high E. I'm sorry, but I'm not a pro and my range
is normally limited to high C and D. I can hit an E,
but it's rather random. The second bone is the same
down an octave. Has anyone had any experience with
this piece? Would it be better to take both parts down
an octave or to keep them as is and just take the too
high notes down (or not play them at all since they'd
be doubled in second)?
I have a similar issue with the Fifth Symphony. It's
range is to a high F (the alto bone part which is what
I'm playing). In this case, though, the parts are not
doubled an octave down. How would any of you recommend
handling this part.
On a side note, I have an alto bone, but am not yet
comfortable playing it, yet and it wouldn't
necessarily help my range that much as I've heard in
this forum.
Thanks in advance for your assistance - I mostly lurk,
but love this forum!
Regards,
Mark Mohwinkel
