[Trombone-l] YSL-691

Hi all,

I recently had access to try out about a dozen or so newer and
proto-type Yamaha trombones. I was very impressed with all 697Z's I
tried.

Sounds like Yamaha putting a lot of effort into their tenor trombones
these days after several years of totally re-thinking their trumpet
designs--with great success. The US Yamaha folks have also been
circulating a couple proto-type horns for feedback that really play
[including two re-designed 691's]. Many of the pros I have spoken with
seem to like them too. I think they are on a good track and it is nice
to hear them taking the small/medium small bore market seriously again.

Andy Martin has recently settled on a 697Z [each of the horns they sent
out to him to try--like 6 of them--had EXCELLENT slides].

And he sounds great on it, by the way [like that should comes as a big
surprise or something....;-)]

Best wishes,

LX
