Our big-city paper, the Plain Dealer, is not part of any conglomerate
(although the owning family also owns some magazines) and they still
publish wire copy for celebrity obituaries. It's more a function of
cost-cutting (why have reporters in every big city write an obituary
of the same celebrity?) than of conglomeration.
