Well, often we have larger, more powerful horns in a symphony setting. Also, the trumpeters in orchestras seem to know and appreciate a trumpet sound which does not DOMINATE, but rather rides on top of a wave of brass sound.

My experience, too. Same is true in concert/symphonic band. Not so much in orchestra for some reason.

That is the results I've had in now about 250 or so recordings made with portable digital audio recordings of live performances and rehearsals.
