[Trombone-l] Valve lubricants

Hi Keith, there's really no major difference between the two oils.
There may be differences in viscosity, thickness, but that's about it.

I recommend two oils for rotary valves, be they standard, Thayer, Hagmann,
whatever, a thick Key oil for the bearings, and the regular oil for inside
the valve (down the t.slide tubes or into the slide receiver.
I feel the bearings need a thicker more substantial oil since that is where
there is actual brass to brass contact.
The other oil is basically to reduce build-up of stuff and corrosion.

Thanks
Eric

Subject: [Trombone-l] Valve lubricants

Does anyone know what is the difference between the lubricants used for
piston valves and that used for rotors? If there is a difference what is the
essential difference in the tasks each needs to perform?

I'm intrigued as I need to use both: rotary oil on conventional rotors and
piston oil on hagmann valves.

In the spirit of recent posts -

OIL be obliged if you can enlighten me . . .

Cheers!
