All;

I have a personal policy of trying to recognize exceptionally positive
service and care by folks I deal with. Since I recently had such an
experience with trombone related situation I thought I would bring it to the
list’s attention.

I recently had the devil of a time trying to find what should have been a
simple part for my Holton TR-181. The “Water Key” broke off when hooked on
a riser during a gig. I found one that “sorta worked” in the Slide Doctor’s
junk drawer that week – but I wanted to replace it with the original
“correct” part. No one appeared to have it in stock – or have any idea of
when they could get it. I finally asked the local place to order me one
..
and began waiting.

After a couple of months I got a bit impatient and called up Le Blanc
directly. They were (to be kind) less than helpful. So I called the Holton
factory directly. They said they couldn’t sell parts but they gave me the
name of Breber Music there in Elkhorn.

I got in touch with Dan there at Breber Music and he immediately
went to extra effort to help. HE said while they didn’t have one in stock
it would be no big deal for him to run across town and get one from the
Factory to send to me. For a 25 dollar part he was willing to take this
extra effort. This was especially notable because the key originally on my
horn was not a match – visually- to the one now being sold as original
equipment. I was concerned that it would work. Dan said he’d send it and
if it didn’t work I could just send it back – no muss no fuss.

The water key arrived promptly and – although a bit of “adjustment” was
necessary – it did fit just fine. But wait there’s more
.. about a week
later Dan called me just to see if everything went well and the part fit.
That is my idea of good customer service.

So if any of you listers should have trouble getting Holton parts – or
anything else – I recommend Dan of Breber Music (262-723-2233) in Elkhorn
Wisconsin highly. That’s one guy who will go to great lengths to try to
help.
