Earl,

You are correct.  It is not only the national anthem, but the official
incidental music, elevator music, mood music, ceremony music, ballad music,
pop music, etc.  It is played for every possible event.  You cannot go more
than about 45 seconds without hearing it.  And peer pressure WILL make you
stand up for it.  

To my mind this is the single most disastrous consequence of a certain
incident some 5 years ago or so.  No amount of extra time in airports, etc.,
comes even close.
