[Trombone-l] This won't ever happen again

Heh! For those who were asleep during this class in music:
It is perhaps a TRIBUTE to our country's history and heritage, that we have
both "The Star Spangled Banner", which is Francis Scott Key poetry set to an
old tune called "Anacreon in Heaven", which was the club song of the
Anacreonists (I guess a musical society??), in Britain. AND then we've got
our version of "God Save the Queen", which is "America (My Country, Tis of
Thee)". . .of the two, I somehow prefer America as a musical vehicle. . .it
is smoother (less arpeggiated style), I guess.
So, no wonder both of these sound a bit on the "old school" side of things.
Reminds me that I convinced our Junior High principal to allow me to play
Stan Kenton's (Bob Curnow!!) version of God Save the Queen (America) instead
of the older recording of the Star Spang Banr. I could control this,
because I was the PA audio engineering guy during my stay at Jr High--This
was a pretty popular move, which was not made permanent, by any means, but
which could be pointed to as an example of school, admin "hipness". . .I
guess.
I believe (if I'm remembering this stuff right) this principal at Madison JR
HS, in Van Nuys, CA was named Leon Sklar and his son is the pretty famous
bass player named Sklar. . (I forget the first name. . he's on a bunch of
rock albums).
