I think I’m the only Samford person right now on the
main DegreeWorks listserv, so I’m the lucky recipient of the weekly
updates on Defects and RPEs coming from SunGard. (If anybody else wants

But now that we’re in the process of upgrading TEST to
version DW 4.0.3, to see how that goes before doing the same in PROD, we
realized that some of the items mentioned in those e-mails might actually be
worth reading by someone other than me! J

I’ve collected all the defects into a couple of Word
files. For the most recently reported defects I’ve updated the
status, if known. I’ll do the same for the older defects as time
permits, and will try to update the files on a regular basis w/newly reported
defects and status changes. If any of you have access to the SunGard Customer
Support Center, you can check on a defect’s status yourself, if you’re
curious.

The files are stored in the newly created folder, Upgrades,
on the W drive in the following path: W:\Workgroups\DegreeWorks\Upgrades

Cathy Scott and Ken Cook decided to create the Upgrades
folder for issues related to the latest upgrade (see also the subfolder DW
4.0.3), and will store any document related to future upgrade issues here
as well.

The files are currently named as follows:

DegWks-Defects

Reported in DW 4.0.x (since release of 4.0.3)

Each file contains defect notices related to any of the
current DW versions since 4.0 was released in Fall 2008. The second
document contains defect notices that started appearing shortly after DW 4.0.3 was
released. Once DW 4.0.4 comes out, I’ll start a new document as
soon as defect notices begin addressing that version.

DW 4.0.4 is expected to be
released Monday, September 14, 2009.

FYI: Although some defects have been discovered by
clients using an older version of DegreeWorks (DW 4.0.1 or 2), many were
discovered only recently, and won’t get resolved until version 4.0.4
comes out.

Sometimes a patch or quick fix of some sort is available to
us BEFORE the release of the next upgrade, if we make a request through the
Customer Support Center (if the status is considered resolved). I’m
checking on the possibility of a patch for the following:

One defect reported in DW 4.0.3 is that minors are not being
pulled into an audit. You won’t see them in the top block (or if
you do, they might be listed under the major), you won’t see the minor
GPA, and you won’t see the details of the minor within the audit itself.
In fact, you can’t even Look Up a student using the minor as a
parameter. You’ll keep getting a “No students found”
message). As a result, you can’t properly assess the
student’s status, since all the coursework he/she might have taken
towards the minor will get thrown into either General Electives or the Fallthrough
block. This is a fairly significant error (due to a typo in some
behind-the-scenes coding that we don’t maintain).

At this time, we don’t know if we will upgrade PROD
soon or wait until the 4.0.4 upgrade is ready first. If there is a patch
available for the above-mentioned defect, and if we decide to upgrade PROD to
DW 4.0.3 before the release of 4.0.4, I’ll let you know.
