[Degreeworks-l] FW: DW4.0.8 DegreeWorks Software Patch Available

I received this message about the latest DW upgrade (to DW4.0.8) just before the Christmas break.

I have since downloaded all the documentation and have placed the new technical and user guides in a folder labeled as follows:
W:\Workgroups\DegreeWorks\Technical & User Guides\Updated Tech & User Guides (DW4.0.8).

Again, I renamed them to match the old format, but have kept the new documents as SGHE has named them in another folder, in case some of you are looking for the documents under those titles:
W:\Workgroups\DegreeWorks\Technical & User Guides\Z-DW4.0.8 New Files-Abbreviated File Names (xtra).

I’ve looked over the documentation and have noted the major changes in the Releases & Patches file:
DW-Log of Software Releases & Patches.xlsx<file:///\\samfordstorage.ad.samford.edu\departments\Workgroups\DegreeWorks\DW-Log%20of%20Software%20Releases%20&%20Patches.xlsx>  (or for those who can only access the DegreeWorks folder under Academic, use this link<file:///\\samfordstorage.ad.samford.edu\departments\Academic\DegreeWorks\DW-Log%20of%20Software%20Releases%20&%20Patches%20(backup%20copy).xlsx>).

Most of the changes correct problems and defects found in previous version, but there are some new or expanded features we will want to try (Web-based SHPEntry tool), some new Scribe features, etc.  Also, there is mention that Open SSL is now required, and that 64-bit mode is now available—but there’s an important note associated with that if we plan to use it.

We don’t need to rush to install this upgrade/patch since we still haven’t completely reviewed all the new features in DW 4.0.7 (such as the Athletic Eligibility Audit and the new ability to Freeze Audits).  DW 4.0.7 was installed in the TEST environment in November, but installation of the same in PROD has been postponed until possibly Spring Break in March.  The next anticipated release is DW 4.1.0, scheduled for July 2011.  So keep that in mind when planning the best time to install DW 4.0.8.

We are okay to keep using DW 4.0.6 in PROD until we’ve more fully tested the latest features in DW 4.0.7 (or DW 4.0.8).

DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS:

To download the defect patch, go to the SunGard Higher Education Support Center web site - https://connect.sungardhe.com/customer_support

Click on 'Documentation & Download Center', then the 'Documentation’ tab near the top.  Choose DegreeWorks from the 'Select Product' list.  Check the checkbox next to ‘DW4.0.0’ ‘Install Guide’ and ‘Release Guide’ and click the "List Files" button.

Next, click on the 'Software Downloads' tab near the top.  Choose DegreeWorks from the 'Select Product' list.  Check the checkbox next to "DW4.0.0" and click the "List Files" button.

PC Installation File:                                             DegreeWorks_406_Setup.exe
Flex Application Configuration File (optional):        DegreeWorks_408_AppCfg.exe
Sample Reports File (optional):                           SampleRpts_DW404.zip

Check the checkboxes next to the instructions and patch file, and click the 'ZIP Selected Files' button. Click on the 'Click Here to Download the ZIP File' button to download into your download area. See the Installation Instructions (DGW_Installation_Guide_DW408.pdf) for the steps to install this patch onto your server.
