Job Summary: The Assistant Director for the School of Library & Information Studies (SLIS) works closely with the Director to develop ongoing, lifelong relationships between the School of Library and Information Studies and its students and alumni. This position manages all aspects of the student admissions process for the master's programs offered by SLIS.

Additional Department Summary: This position reports to the Director of the School of Library & Information Studies (SLIS) and sets and maintains the atmosphere for a positive, professional environment that fosters ongoing, lifelong relationships between the School and its students and alumni. Serves as the primary contact for prospective students. Manages all aspects of the student admissions process for the master's programs offered by SLIS: i.e. the MLIS program, both face to face and via distance learning; and the MFA in the Book Arts. Acts as the SLIS liaison to the Graduate School in all admission matters, and keeps the Director, other SLIS staff, and SLIS faculty apprised of admissions issues and topics for consideration and discussion by faculty and other cognizant parties. Serves as liaison to the School's admissions and scholarships committee, advising members of communication with prospective students, applicants, and accepted students. Interacts with the School's alumni and professional contacts, and, in conjunction with the Library School Association, oversees and assists with alumni events, as needed. Provides informational and troubleshooting support to regular and adjunct faculty, as needed.

Required Minimum Qualifications: A Master's degree or higher in Library & Information Studies or related field and 3 years experience in a library, university, school, governmental agency or other not-for-profit organization. Understanding of library education and its relationship to the information professions. Requires some travel.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: MLIS degree from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association. Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral. Excellent interpersonal skills, including successful conflict resolution and supervisory experience. Ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels within and outside the university. Interest and engagement in opportunities for professional development including membership in professional and scholarly associations, publication and presentations. Understanding of the value and potential of library education and its relationship to the information professions, as well as current trends in the field. Ability to make these connections and discuss them with others in the context of the School's mission and goals. Proficiency in MS Office Productivity Tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. Superior and professional email and social networking skills/etiquette.
