I have been asked to forward to you this information and request from Dr. Franz Lohrke. Students enrolling in electives this Summer should consider his information about the electives, Point 1. All students should respond to Point 2 by completing the survey relating to concentrations.

"Hello everyone,

As the spring semester winds down, and we approach summer, I wanted to (1) inform you of a possible summer elective and (2) ask for your feedback about our new concentrations if you are earning a degree that requires you take business electives (like an MBA or MAcc).

1. The commercial...we are offering 3 courses under the designation of BUSA 597, which may cause some confusion. (These courses will have different numbers next summer after the new catalog is released.)

BUSA 597, Section 1 is the one I'm teaching. You should consider taking this class if

* you are interested in writing a business plan for a new business idea or for a new market that your current company may be entering or

* you want to take two electives this summer and you are already taking either the Web-based Business course (BUSA 595) or New Product Development course (BUSA 597, Section 3). In BUSA 595, you will need to write a preliminary business plan for your web-based business and in BUSA 597 (Section 3), you will be consulting for a new company down at Innovation Depot. Thus, the skills you learn in the business plan writing class will also apply to both these classes.

You should wait till next summer to the business plan writing class (section 1) if you are planning on pursuing an Entrepreneurship concentration because BUSA 597 (section 2) is a prerequisite. Because this is the first summer we are offering concentrations, however, if you want to take both this summer (section 1 is on Tuesday, section 2 is on Thursday), we will allow this in most cases.

2. Sometime during the next week, please take a very short (about 5 minutes) survey about our concentrations in Entrepreneurship and International Business. We would ask you to fill out the survey even if you don't plan to pursue a concentration because all MBA and MAcc students need to take 2 electives for their degree. This survey will help us plan some our elective offerings out over the next few semesters.

The survey is available at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5FMLT6H.

Thanks so much.
