Welcome back! We have had a busy and productive summer here at the Brock School of Business and I trust you have as well. I hope you have had time to relax, spend time with your family and friends, and enjoy some summer activities.
As we start a new academic year, I want to encourage you to be involved in the lifeblood of YOUR Brock School of Business. There are many ways to stay involved, but here are just a few suggestions:
* Please join us for cookies and drinks each night during the first week of classes. Plan to stay a little longer after your early class, or come early for the late classes to enjoy some fellowship with colleagues and faculty. If you are in two classes on one night join us during the break.
Each night we will meet from 7pm to 8pm. The Dean's Conference Room (DBH 327) will be used Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Room 204 is reserved for Wednesday.
This is a great time to meet and have fellowship with fellow Brock graduate students and faculty outside of the classroom.
* During the coming year there will be several opportunities for you to hear from important business leaders. Watch your e-mail for event notices, or follow the Samford Brock School of Business<http://www.facebook.com/pages/Birmingham-AL/Samford-Brock-School-of-Business/45216029906> on Facebook for details.
* I also want to encourage you to join us at a Samford Business Network Breakfast meeting. These meetings are held quarterly in Birmingham and are free to attend but registration is required. Our next meeting is on November 10at at 7am. Our speaker is Ron Alsop former editor and reporter for the Wall Street Journal and author of 8 books including, "The Trophy Kids Grow Up: How the Millennial Generation is Shaking Up the Workplace.
* One noteworthy change the Fall term includes keeping our computer labs in DBH open later. Please check the hours posted outside each computer lab (DBH 312 and DBH 423) as these hours will vary depending on usage for instruction.
Best wishes for a successful school year,
James P. Reburn, DBA, CPA
